The Pardons of President Trump Part 2 - Kristian Mark Saucier
Pardon number 2 on President Trump's list was Kristian Mark Saucier. When he pardoned Saucier, President Trump tweeted, "Congratulations to Kristian Saucier, a man who served proudly in the Navy, on your newly found Freedom. Now you can go out and live the life you deserve!"
Kristian Mark Saucier
So, what exactly was Kristian Mark Saucier charged with....taking photos inside of classified areas of a submarine. Saucier had plead guilty to unauthorized detention of defense information for the photos that he took inside of the USS Alexandria. His charges were in violations of the espionage act.
While Saucier claimed, from the beginning of his charges, that he was just trying to have momentos of his time in the service. The federal prosecurtors claims painted a different picture of a soldier who was not happy and chose to take photos that showed integral parts of the submarine's mechanics, including those that could be used for destruction. When he was first questioned, he further obstructed justice by destorying a camera and laptop.
One thing that must be considered is that this was not a normal submarine, but rather a nuclear submarine. In his defense, Saucier claimed that it was a hunt against him because of the actions of Clinton and her emails that have been heavily scrutinized and investigated.
He went on to sue Obama and Comey over what he believed to be unfair application and treatment of the law in connection with Clinton's email issues. His main arugment that while his case looked at the same law and interpreted that he was guilty, when that law was applied to issues with Clinton's emails, it was not applied in the same manner. Ultimately, the case would be dismissed.
It was hard to find current information about Saucier. I was able to discover that he is currently a student at Southern New Hampshire University earning high marks including the honor role and president's list.
This pardon was not as heavily persecuted as others that President Trump offered. Do you agree with Saucier being pardoned? Do you think that this was innocent or that it was him trying to do something nepharious? That would greatly change your opinion about the pardon.
